Our farm in Benin has a variety of livestock kept for human consumption as well as for other agricultural purposes. The farm is home to a total of 23 cows, which are valued for their milk and meat. The cows provide valuable dairy products such as yoghurt and cheese, while their meat is an important source of protein for the local population.
Besides the cows, there are also 149 rabbits on the farm. Rabbits are known for their fast reproduction rate and tender meat. They are a sustainable source of meat and also provide high quality fur for making clothes and accessories.
The farm also houses 14 pigs, prized for their tasty meat and ability to feed on organic waste. Pigs are an important source of protein and fat and contribute to the circular economy as they can utilise leftover farm produce and food. There are about 301 chickens on the farm as well as about 2523 fish !
Furthermore, there are 77 turkeys and 214 guinea fowls on the farm. These poultry species are known for their lean meat and egg production. Turkey meat is a popular alternative to chicken meat and guinea fowl stand out for their exotic appearance.
Finally, there are 12 sheep and 13 goats on the farm, which are valued for their wool, meat and milk. Sheep's wool is often made into warm textiles such as jumpers and blankets, while sheep's milk is a source of high-quality dairy products such as cheese and yoghurt.
